VIDEO PREMIERE: JACKSON DREYER - "TALKING THROUGH OUR FRIENDS"

Nashville-based, Soul / Pop artist, Jackson Dreyer, gives us vibey basement nostalgia with the premiere of the video for his release, “Talking Through Our Friends.” Check out a bit of the background on what went down, and watch the video below.

YMC: Let’s start with this video: is this in a garage?

JD: This absolutely my garage. 😂 Nate Boyd (@claytoncorners on IG) helped me transform the space, and shot and edited the whole thing.

YMC: Favorite part of the video?

JD: If you take a look at the artworks of all of the songs on this project, you’ll notice several recurring items (the yellow phone, the disco ball, etc.), so I wasn’t going to make a video without some nods to the other songs! My favorite prop is the cardboard cutouts of the silhouettes in this artwork.

YMC: So this is your fourth single of the project; are you making an album?

JD: I am making an album! Still haven’t “officially” announced it, so I guess this is the YMC exclusive scoop! It was pretty funny when Talking Through Our Friends came out because people were telling me “I love the EP!“ and I didn’t realize that yeah, it is an EP! So I’ll release two more songs, and the EP will continue to grow before the whole album is here.

YMC: It’s pretty obvious what this new song is about, but what’s was the writing session like?

JD: I came into a write with Tony Cianchetta and Clara Park pretty frustrated that communication lines were down with this girl I had been going on dates with, and I felt like the only way I could see what was really going on was to talk to her best friend. Out of that frustration, we just had fun with the story. (Referencing the fictional friends Kacey, Staycee, and Leighcey had us cracking up). Once the song was written, Joël Bruyère worked his magic taking it across the finish line.

YMC: What’s your favorite part of the song?

JD: Oh, that’s gotta be the bridge into the final chorus. I was absolutely not planning on having a key change in the song, but the bridge ended up leading us so naturally into a much higher key. We need more key changes these days!

YMC: Anything coming up do you want to tell us about?

JD: Yes! If you’re in Nashville, my band and I will be playing a big show at Acme on August 10th! Keep your eyes peeled on my socials for the next single, because it isn’t too far out, and it might just make you tear up a little bit!
