PREMIERE: CLAUDIA B "NIGHT WITHOUT YOU" ACOUSTIC VID

In celebration of pop/country, Claudia B’s hot new acoustic video for “Night Without You”, YMC’s hitting you with 5 fast facts that you kinda/maybe need to know. Check them out below:

5 FAST FACTS

1. I grew up in Northern Virginia and studied music in Boston for 3 years, but am happy to call Nashville home now.

2. My influences are all over the place, everywhere from Stevie Wonder to Amy Winehouse to Maren Morris.

3. I'm a little too obsessed with my cat, Louis - so much so that he has his own Instagram account.

4. The first song that I ever performed live by myself was Maroon 5's 'She Will Be Loved' at a middle school talent show. I had my phone on the piano for lyrics and it died halfway through.

5. I've always been a singer! When I was 4 or 5, I used to do impromptu performances around the house imitating Louis Armstrong.

FEATURE: SAM VARGA - "HALF HEART HALLELUJAH"

samvarga.jpg

Emo rocker, Sam Varga gets real af in his brand new single "Half Heart Hallelujah". Check out the backstory below:

"The worst hangover every year is consistently the one you get from going out in your hometown when you're back for the holidays. Throw a break-up and a death in there and that morning really sucks. The chorus came to me as a hymn Christmas morning with my head buried as far down as possible in a couch back home in Louisville. You just gotta own it, write about it, laugh it off, and try to do better tomorrow. (Produced by William Stone)

FEATURE: MITCH ROSSELL EXCLUSIVE Q + A

mitchrossell.jpg

From penning several songs for the legendary Garth Brooks to making waves with his own career, country artist/writer, Mitch Rossell is just getting started. Check out the exclusive YMC interview below!

Tell us a little bit about the writing process for “Then Again” with Gary Burr.

Gary is a talented dude. That was his hook and I immediately gravitated towards it and we started trying to think of ways to hook it and make it interesting. I love the way it turned out.

You released an acoustic version of “Then Again” in early October, how did the collab with Music Travel Love come about?

Music Travel Love are the real deal. Great vocalists, great players, and really great guys. We had so much fun hanging and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them take "Then Again" to places that I couldn't lol!

You scored your first No. 1 as a songwriter with Garth Brooks’ “Ask Me How I Know,” what was the inspiration behind that track?

That song is really personal for me. I was always the guy that just wouldn't let anybody close enough to really fall in love. I dated some great girls and I just was never at a place in my life where I was ready for it if that makes sense. I had a good heart and good intentions, but I hurt a few of them as well as myself because of those walls I had built.

You had an incredible opportunity to go on tour with Garth as well, what went through your mind before you got on stage each night? Do you have any fun stories from the tour you’d like to share?

Don't screw this up. Ha! Ok in all seriousness, I was usually anxious, excited, nervous, jacked-up, I mean there are so many emotions. The more shows I did the more I settled in, and honestly, Garth's crowds treat you like family so that made it a lot easier. One crazy story I have is when we were playing in Jersey, it was actually the weekend "Ask Me How I Know" went number 1, I was on stage and had just finished my first song. I was talking to introduce my second song and the power for the entire arena went out. I wasn't able to finish my set but Garth told me to be by the stage when "Ask Me How I Know" came up in his set and he brought me up to sing it with him. More than made up for my opening slot getting cut short!

How do you think your music and/or writing has developed since you’ve started making music?

It's night and day honestly. For me, writing songs is like a muscle. The more you do it the more you sharpen your ax and grow. I've also been fortunate to write with some incredibly talented people and I've learned a lot from them and applied it to my craft.

What do you hope fans take away from your music after they listen to it?

I hope they just feel something deep in their gut, something authentic that moves them. I want to make music that becomes the fabric of peoples' lives. Timeless, honest, and unforgettable.

Any advice you have for artists and songwriters just getting their start in Music City?

I don't pretend to have the answers but I would just say be yourself. I've been given that advice and while it may sound broad and simple, it's actually the opposite. There is only ONE you, period. No one on the planet can do what you do the way you do it. That's your x-factor, don't forget it.

FEATURE: LVRBOY FT. LEAH SYKES - "ALL OF MY FRIENDS ARE SAD"

LVRBOY.jpg

Indie-pop kid, LVRBOY just put out a sick new slow-bop, “all of my friends are sad”, ft. Leah Sykes. YMC has the backstory on the track below:

“A few months back, one of my sister’s friends took his own life. The next day, a girl I was seeing was on the phone with a friend who was sad about a guy and said, “all my friends are sad,” and frowned at me. I was struggling myself with a few different things at the time and, after she said that, I immediately began writing it. The next day, Leah and I finished it.

The whole song is based on the idea that we didn’t have a care in the world as kids and our parents always told us everything would be alright when, in fact, a lot of people are not okay right now. Would love to do something together on this. This song is super special to me.”

Check out the kickin’ new tune “So Long California” from Nashville via West Coast country artist, Stephan Hogan. Full length album of the same name avail Nov 20.

“I left California about a year and a half ago to move to TN. My wife and I sold everything, loaded up into her VW Jetta, and drove across the country so I could chase my dream. This song talks about leaving home and the journey which was the inspiration to this whole album. I feel like this song will resonate with the many people leaving California and the many people confronted with life change.”

JAMES DUPRE HITS HOME WITH NEW ALBUM 'HOME AND AWAY'

James Dupre spills the tea on the alcohol infused new track, “Home and Away” and hits us with the highlights of the new record of the same name. Watch the brand new music video below!

Q+A":

  • I know it might be hard to choose, but if you had to, what song on the new album is your favorite and why?

“I Pulled It Off.” That one is special to me. It was one of the first songs I’d written solo after moving to Nashville. It became my favorite original to sing at writer’s nights, and people loved to hear it live. Really happy it made it onto Home and Away.

  • Can you tell us a little bit about your songwriting process for the title track “Home and Away”?

I wanted to create an analogy between football and a relationship. I wanted to talk about teamwork and make it feel nostalgic, taking you back to high school. I thought using the Home team and Away team was a great direction to go in, and thankfully my co-writer Greg Bates was very receptive to the idea.

  • How do you think your music and/or writing has grown since you’ve started music?

Part of the growth comes from experience, the more you write, the better you become. But I think initially I was writing what I thought I was supposed to write, and now I’m focusing on what I want to write. Maybe it’s because I trust myself more, I have more confidence in my creative instincts.

  • What was your thought process when you were putting together the album and figuring out the sequencing for the tracks?

At first I didn’t really know how I was going to sequence the tracks, but then I just tried to put them in chronological order of when they were written. It really worked! Somehow, that scientific approach really made the songs flow so beautifully across the album.

  • What do you hope fans take away from the album after listening to it in its entirety?

I hope that they feel the emotion and authenticity of the lyrics and the music. It’s not an album you can really rage to or play beer-pong to (though I’m not opposed), it’s something you sit down with a drink and really listen to as the story unfolds.

  • What was the inspiration behind the "Home and Away" music video?

I wanted to do the shoot somewhere in small-town Texas because of its rich high school football culture. Thankfully, Gordon High School came through for us and were very happy to let us shoot their homecoming game. The action scenes from the game, the cheering crowd, the sunset over the field, all make the video so fun to watch. As in the song, the couple in the video went to high school together and went to every home game together, up until now. I really love how the video captures the story, and very happy with how it turned out.

  • You’ve worked closely with Randy Travis and even had the chance to tour with him. What have you learned from working with a country music legend?

I’ve learned a lot from him. I knew him briefly before his 2013 stroke, and to know him since then after going through the enormous obstacles that he faced was nothing short of inspirational. When we did the tour last year, his loyal fans showed up and he made time to do meet and greets and let people love him and tell him stories. He really loves seeing his fans. I hope to continue learning from him as I grow as an artist.

  • Do you have any fun stories from recording or production on the album that you’d like to share with our audience?

This album was made during quarantine, so you’d probably expect that it wasn’t nearly as fun as getting together with the whole band in the studio and making memories. Well one thing that I loved was watching my baby girl, Rellie, as she listened to each track grow, all the way from a basic track to a mastered track. Her little one year old brain has soaked in the bare bones of this album, and she lights up anytime she hears one come on. I think that’s special.
