I wrote and recorded SIGNAL in a couple sessions in October and December last year. As soon as I started working on the beat I knew there was something about it that I really liked, but it took me a couple sessions to sort of chisel away at it until I had what so needed. After I had most of it structured out I called Fesssi K. to do some background vocals, she’s a friend of mine from Florida. She has such an incredible voice and I thought she would sound great on this track, and I think her contributions really took it to the next level.What excited me most about making SIGNAL was just experimenting with different sounds and my voice. The production of this one is some of my favorite I’ve ever done, and it’s a totally different sound from anything I did for my debut album. This song also felt like a turning point for my vocals, I felt like I found new ways to use my voice, between different ways of processing, and different performative styles.
