FEATURE: JACKSON DREYER - "RENT IN MY HEAD"

We’ve got the low down on Nashville based pop / soul artist, Jackson Dreyer’s new single, “Rent in my Head.” Stream it below.

We’ve all heard the phrase “living rent free in your head,” and hearing that phrase one day really hit me hard in regards to someone I once loved and hadn’t completely let go. I had been listening to a lot of Prince, Timberlake, and probably “Attention” by Charlie Puth, and when my dear friend Tasji and I sat down to write, I started playing this bass line and the song popped out in no time. A lot of times when I’m writing with someone, I’ll shout out, “and this is what the horns will do!“ I normally get a bewildered look, but Tasji knows me well and nothing surprises her anymore. As the one who arranges my horn parts, I really love that the horns are locked into the bass line.

I had this song written for a few months when Joël Bruyère found me. Now my producer and mentor, Joël and I combed through a ton of songs, and he and I both focused in on Rent In My Head as a favorite that needed to be heard. Over months of sessions and life talks, Joël worked his magic and we brought some awesome players on to polish off the track. It’s a priority of mine to have real horns and percussion in my records, and that’s what my live shows have as well!
